Our Manifesto
Neighbourhoods are humanity's oldest technology.
LavingtonPost exists to strengthen neighbourhood trust through thoughtful technology — not to maximise attention.
Why We Exist
Success is measured by stronger neighbourhoods — not larger audiences.
LavingtonPost was not built to maximise screen time or capture advertising impressions. Every product decision is weighed against one question: does this make the neighbourhood stronger, or just louder?
What we're not building
- Not another social network. Social networks reward visibility. We reward trust.
- Not a business directory. A directory lists businesses. We help residents discover ones they can trust.
- Not an advertising platform. Businesses may purchase visibility. They may never purchase trust.
What we're building
- A digital town square. Baraza — the public conversation of the neighbourhood.
- A trusted local economy. Making the relationships residents already have more trustworthy.
- A trusted knowledge base. Neighbourhood knowledge that becomes easier to find over time, not harder.
What We Strengthen
Four relationships. One golden rule.
No feature exists in isolation — every feature must strengthen at least one of these.
Resident → Resident
Helping neighbours become neighbours.
The oldest relationship in every community. Technology should strengthen it, not replace it.
Resident → Business
Helping residents discover businesses worthy of trust.
Confidence cannot be bought. It has to be earned, one reliable visit at a time.
Business → Community
Helping businesses become contributors, not advertisers.
Businesses are neighbours too — they employ residents, sponsor events, and solve local problems.
Resident → Neighbourhood
Helping residents feel connected to the place they live.
Neighbourhoods have identities, histories, and challenges. Residents should feel informed and connected.
How We Decide
Four of our ten principles.
Trust before growth
A slowly growing platform that steadily strengthens neighbourhood trust is succeeding.
Calm before noise
Residents should feel better after using the platform — not overwhelmed.
Privacy before convenience
We collect only what helps strengthen neighbourhood relationships. Nothing more.
Human judgment before automation
Algorithms identify. Humans decide. Moderation requires context.
The Pledge
A neighbourhood is more than a place. It is a network of trust.
Everything we build should strengthen that network — quietly, beautifully, one neighbour at a time.
